Stereotypes!
Today I realized often there is a reason that causes us to stereotype. People don’t like the thought that some times stereotypes are true, it shows patterns people don’t want to face.
I pulled into the grocery store and parked my car, there was an elderly lady parked already in one of the spots. I noticed her turning signal was on as I entered into the store. After doing my shopping I returned to my truck, and I noticed that elderly lady was still setting in that spot with her turning signal on. As I went to leave a younger woman came out and got into the elderly ladies vehicle.
I hear those comedians stereotyping the elderly about leaving their signals on, and in this case it was true. I assumed being elderly her perception wasn’t as clear, so she didn’t notice the light flashing on her dash. Perhaps being elderly her hearing wasn’t what it used to be, because the sound of a flasher is loud enough to get annoying. If we use the stereotypes to try to avoid doing those things ourselves maybe we can stop them from continuing.
Break the patterns!!

As a walking talking stereotype I must say that no matter how hard I try I just can’t seem to break the 101 habits that people label as goofy.
@ImNotUglyIJustNeedLove - LOL Bro Billy as I am getting older I find some of those stereotypes are automatic, unless fought against. I dont know why it is so easy to fall asleep while some one is talking to me. lol
I like to see stereotypes challenged by people who get stereotyped……but usually that doesn’t happen……I have a mental illness, you know where that puts me, I cant even joke with people sometimes.
@alterb4ego - Agreed Crystal, breaking those stereotypes is the chalenge.
My grandpa leaves the turn signal on because he can’t hear it too well and forgets about it. When I remind him, he says, “They make it too quiet!”
Leaving the turn signal on is no big deal. Where I live about once a weel an elderly person presses the gas pedal instead of the break and goes crashing through a store front
@reginasikora - It makes you wonder if they don’t notice the light flashing on the dash how much activity on the road they don’t notice. Not for sure they could make those signal flasher any louder. LOL Thanks for the visit and the comment.
@Nostra_Damus - I have saw that on news several times, it does make you wonder if thei rrights to drive should be tested. I saw one day an elderly lady at the gas pump forget she was pumping gas, and she drove off. Thank you for the visit and the comment.
Lewis , I know this has nothing to do with the post, but I noticed somehwere you said “Pray with out ceasing.” I hav ebeen trying to get a better relationship with God and I was wondering , does God look at talking to Him, as praying to Him? Like if I talk to Him throughout the day, does He count that as a prayers? Does it matter? Please let me know when youc an. I am so confused.
God bless you little brother
Nancy
@Nancybratt - I believe talking and praying is the same thing, also when our thoughts are upon the Lord and his ways it is a form of prayer. When our minds are upon the Lord we are in communication with him. In all our ways acknowledge him and He shall direct our path. I too talk to the Lord through out the day.
Hmm, much wisdom here! ~ Pete
@Nancybratt - Lewis is right Nancy….Talking, and focusing, are ways that you are in contact with the Lord….Talking is just as if you’re praying…Focusing is from the heart, and Jesus sees it…You are in contact with the Lord no matter what you do, if you always have your mind upon Him….
I agree with you Lewis….Stereotyping is a part of life….And if we can use stereotyping to change our ways, as we get older, that would be great, but…
Sometimes, you’ll still get into a habit, just like that elderly woman, whose turn signal was left on….It would have been nice, if someone had tapped on her window, to let her know that it was still blinking…..
@ellie1945 - Amen Ellie, it is all about learning and changing becoming the light we are called to be. I try to watch allowing bad habits to form, they always end up bad. There have been times when people have had their signal on, and some one thought they were going to turn and pulled out to discover they were not.
