  • Guard the gate

When we praise one in front of another are we creating jealousy or envy? There are many that have envy and jealousy issues, and because of that our words should be controlled. The word tells us without fuel the fire dies, in many cases we are placing fuel upon a fire in ignorance. That is why the word tells us a prudent man conceals knowledge; basically a smart man knows when to hold their peace. In the following story we can see how King Saul’s relationship with David starts to degenerate because of what was said.

1Sa 18:6  And it came to pass as they came, when David was returning from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of music. 7 And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands. 8 And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom? 9 And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.

Pro 12:23 A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.

Pro 17:27 He that hath knowledge spareth his words…

Pro 16:23 The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.

  • God bless you Lewis, I miss you around my page. I sometimes envy my pastor because he can quote nearly everything fromthe Bible. And when I try, I can never remember or mess it up. I think God doesnt want me to be envious, but I feel like I cant help it because I am letting Him down

  • @Nancybratt - I also find it hard to remember verses, I can remember some of what they say, thank God for the search so I can find them. LOL I have noticed some verses which I quote a lot I have remembered, so like anything the more we use them the more we can remember them. Thank you for the visit Nan!

    GBU always

  • I know that when you have a disruptive child, praising their good moments goes way further than disciplining them for the bad, especially if they see you do that with all the kids, even the ones who hardly ever make a peep……..Saul had hell in his heart to begin with…….unfortunately.

  • @alterb4ego - Agreed Crystal, that is the problem all that carnal nature within waiting to be fed fuel so we must be cautious with our words. Praising others for doing good to them is a great way to encourage more of the same. God gave Jesus praise, this is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased.

  • I think Bro. Lewis, if we are going to praise anyone in front of some one, we should find something nice to say about the other person also. Because if we do not we will have hurt feelings. Bro. Doc

  • @BroDoc - Agreed Bro Doc, we need to take into consideration the feelings of all. Thank you

  • I’m with Doc….if you are going to say something nice to one person, it’s wise to say something nice to the other(s) standing there….

I find, that if you can’t think of anything nice to say to the other(s) standing there, it’s wiser to wait until the person you want to praise is alone…..

  • @ellie1945 - Agreed Ellie, we see how it went with David and Saul as proof.

  • Great verses! ~ Pete

  • @Evangelist_Guy - Thank you for the visit and the comment, they are appreciated.
