  • Guard your mouth

As these verses came to me I began to see a pattern, so I would like to share it with you. We are told that which comes out of us declares what’s within us. When we declare we are a Christian that which comes out of us proves or denies our confession. If that which comes from within is contrary to our confession, the word warns us that all liars shall have their place in the fire.

Pro 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Mat_15:18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

Mat_12:35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

Mat_7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

By the words and actions of a Christian we proclaim Christ or deny him. By those same words and actions we prove our confession of being a Christian to be true or a lie. Unto whom much is given or claimed, shall much be required.

Rev_21:8 … all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Mat_10:33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

Pro_1:31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

Pro_18:20 A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

  • Amen, Lewis! Always I try to be on guard and remember that when people see me, they should see Christ through me. If I am behaving badly, or speaking ill of someone, they are seeing my sin and not my savior. The only way people will allow us to teach them about Christ is if they see us acting as a good example. Always with our actions we must try to bring glory to God.

Unfortunately, there are days when I fail. But God always brings me a new day to try again.

  • @fruit_snacks_galore - Amen! We are called to be lights to a darkened world, through us only can those of the world see Christ. The word tells us the world cannot recieve the Holy Spirit because it cannot see it, but through us they can. Jesus said because he had spoken what he had, they had no longer a cloak for their sin, meaning they were then held accountable. Through us the world is being given the word of God, and judgment follows. Noah preached righteousness, and judgment followed. Unto whom much is given much is required. Thank you!

  • I asked God for wisdom.  And it came to me that the wisest thing I could do is keep my mouth shut!

  • HI, Lewis, thank you for sharing.  Each time we sin with our mouth,we should repent and ask forgiveness.

  • @TexasWoman59 - Amen Liz, and each time that repenting should bring change in our lives. Thank you!

  • I don’t feel comfortable lying and so mostly I don’t do it……I might tell someone they look ok when they don’t, that sort of thing…….my adherence to the truth gets me into trouble……..and that’s an understatement………it gets me judged too.

  • @Lewis1122 - I was so disappointed.  I thought God was going to have me pontificating like King Solomon.

  • @alterb4ego - Agreed Crystal, lies should make us feel uncomfortable. When we claim to be Christians and live a life as a sinner we are not only denying Christ but lying about it. In both ways we are condemning ourselves. Thank you!
