Creating idols
There was a movie I watched years ago, it was about Russia and the hero they created. Russia at one time believed you motivated your soldiers to fight through fear; they would execute any of them that retreated or at times execute their family members. Fear only worked so far, the fear the soldiers had of their enemies at times out weighed the fear they had of their own officers so they would retreat.
A reporter came up with a new thought; create a hero for Russian solders to look up to, which would inspire the soldiers to become more heroic, it worked.
This principle has been around for thousands of years, you set up something or some one to cause others to covet to be like or to have. Or as the word of God calls it, you create covetousness which is idolatry.
Do you wonder why the carnal man desires the rich to get richer, or how sports players or entertainers are so encouraged to do more to obtain more? By creating idols it causes the carnal mind to start coveting, and that coveting results in fueling a persons passion to fulfill that which is coveted. (Commercials)
As a hunter I see this one a lot, there are many ads showing that those that have got the trophy animals use certain equipment, this causes most hunters to covet that equipment so they too can have a trophy animal.

~*Hugs*~ … God bless you
I have to confess, when I was younger I coveted the relationship my sister had with my mother……..then one day I realized what I was doing and repented. I didn’t take covetous very seriously until I realized the way it had made me treat my sister…….covetousness can bring out the worst in anyone……..it is not a light sin as I once imagined it was………good post.
@alterb4ego - Very good Crystal! As we discover that idolitry is covetousness and that we can covet much, it is easier to repent of and overcome. Many parents fuel their childrens covetousness by how they talk about entertainers sports players fancy homes cars, etc. Thank you!
@Lewis1122 - Interesting post Br Lewis… I am of the opinion that there are two kinds of people in the world, those that sin because they are just used to living in the natrual beast state and getting by without condemnation to their hearts. They tend to grow accustomed to sinning and just ignoring God altogether. .. and then there are those who go through life thinking they do not sin at all.. and that is a falacey. One should repent daily..AMEN
One sin is no worse than the other but all are repentable & forgiveable. They are good teachers many times..
I believe God put us here to gain experience in life and the things we do are recorded on our book of life and a true Christian can feel comdemnation in their hearts and it will build charecter which God loves Good charecter..
It’s also human nature to sin, it’s not right to do it but thank God for repentance.. For learning and for how he modivates us to live holy lives in the face of a sinful world. Over all, I believe there is only one true sin and that is unbelief because Unbelief can cause rejection of Gods word for our DAY, and rejection brings judgement.. As promised by our Lords written word.
1 Corinthians 6:2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
3Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?
4If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church.
5I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?
Amen, “We are here to serve the Lord. GB”
@JUNIPERTREE4ME2 - Yes we do have that carnal nature that leads us to rebellion. It isnt to late until one gets to the point they no longer feel that conviction, when it is gone repentance follows, one only repents when they think they have done wrong.
Truth brings judgment, amen!! Unto whom much is given much shall be required. Thanks Sis Carol
Good Post Lewis…I, myself, look to God for every need….Why should I want, when He supplies everything for me?
I remain focused upon Him….
@ellie1945 - That is wonderful Ellie, thank you! It is so easy to create idols in this world with so much influence being passed upon us from TV and others.
