  • Fear spreads

As I went past a firearm dealer the other day I noticed how it was pact, it hadn’t been that pact for years. I then realized how decisions based upon fear actually cause more problems than it fixes.

Prior to Clinton being elected one of his points was to make assault weapons and clips that held a certain amount of bullets illegal. So prior to his election people rushed out and purchased those items. During his years many sought out those illegal weapons mags and the sales continued to be high, so too was the price profit margin sky rocketed.  During Bush’s terms those laws were removed and the sales of those items once again slowed.

Now once again fear has griped many calling to make those items illegal, and the sales of those items are sky rocketing again.

What I see is this, the more they try to stop those things from being bought the more are sold. There are more assault weapons out there today because they have tried to make them illegal than there was before. So because of fear the reverse has happened.

  • You’re right……..people are on high alert these days.  I don’t own a gun but my husband does.  But if Waco taught me anything, it’s that you cant fight people with superior firepower.

  • Let me clarify, I was not at Waco……but I watched it intently on the news.

  • @alterb4ego - That is what I believe also Crystal,I also watched it and learnt. Many lives would and could have been saved if the government wouldnt have stormed that place if they would haev simply arrested David in town. But you see the government will use force upon their people and it is because of that many desire to have those assault weapons. But like I stated in the post, they sale a lot more weapons when they talk about gun control, perhaps if it wasnt for the law being passed in the first place by Clinton many wouldnt have rushed out to buy them?

  • @Lewis1122 - they probably wouldn’t have….I know I have no desire for that kind of firepower.

  • Just like in Prohibition times… ur right, Lewis…

for me, the problem isn’t the gun itself…it’s the carelessness in the one who is using it. Even if they implement better laws on screening mental health issues or whatever, people who want a gun will always find a way to get one… legal or illegally.  The kid who killed all those kids in CT, they weren’t his guns – they were his mothers…

If your gonna have guns, lock em up…be responsible… I went shooting once at the range with DH, I’m not a bad shot…but something fearful came over me and I haven’t picked up a gun since…I will trust my husband to protect us if we need him to or I’ll use a skillet on an intruders head…but personally, I don’t want to touch another gun for the rest of my life…that doesn’t mean I don’t believe in our rights to bare arms…because I do… we are hunters, gatherers and should have means of protecting ourselves and families…

  • @Sisterinchrst - Agreed Jes!! The mental health screening wouldnt have helped since they werent his guns. I wonder if his mother thought he was dangerous? Like many mom’s especially mine, they think they raise little angels and deny the horns. LOL Thank you for the visit and the comment, they are appreciated.

I was watching a history show abotu prohibtion, they stated the real reason they removed that law is because it made the criminals riches and the government wasnt getting their fair share. (Taxes)

  • @Lewis1122 - I believe that…the government wants their cut…of everything!

I read a report from the guys – moms, friends…They said she was private but always had a concern he would be ok. He had problems at school and being around people in general. He had severe social issues…but they said she never complained about him or went in to detail. Said she loved him and wanted best for him…What I think is she knew he was mentally ill but lived in some kind of denial as far as how bad he was. Being his mother she hoped for him and denied his need for help… who knows for sure, but it’s a classical sign of parental denial to some extent. With that said, of coarse, no one knows what happened behind closed doors. He could have been victim to severe abuse that went undetected. Guess no one will really know… It’s all just very sad…

  • @Sisterinchrst - He could have been victim to severe abuse that went undetected.

Very good point Jes! That could have been why he had so much anger within, that kind of anger I am sure has to be fed.

  • …true… and then there are those who see afflicted/tormented with evil… very sad…

  • You are right Lewis….

Fear is what drives people to buy them….NRA is against any type of ban on any type of weapon….They are right when they say that it won’t do any good…Criminals will find a way to get their hands on them….

Banning them, will mean that those who legally own guns, will have to give them up, and that is something that we don’t want to see happen…..

Those who have their guns legally, will no longer have protection from the criminals….

No….I’m with the NRA….Don’t ban the guns……But be more aware of the buyers…Check their backgrounds, see if they’re a threat, and if they are prevent them from getting weapons….

In the last 3 shootings, those who did the shooting had mental issues…..And…..All played violent games on their xbox, or what ever….And also watched violent movies….Now those are things that should be banned….

  • @ellie1945 - I agree Ellie, banning a weapon wont stop the crime, it is illegal to kill and yet that happens. The true goal should be in research why these with mental issues are having such an anger.
