  • A word that hurts

Before change comes before repentance is accepted one must acknowledge they are doing wrong. As that famous saying goes the first step is acknowledging there is a problem. As my wife and I were doing our house cleaning this morning this came to my mind, so I wanted to share it.

How can so many be against so much and yet be part of the problem?

When we become desensitized to sin we allow it to grow, because it no longer offends us, when we participate in that sin we encourage it to grow.

How many of us have seen these poor people that have lost all through gambling, and yet we gamble, a lotto ticket or just a quick visit to the gambling casinos. Do we watch those shows that should not be watched, such as Ellen and yet we know by the word homosexuality is evil? When we watch those shows which should not be watched we are becoming desensitized and encouraging that sin to grow. If we don’t accept our blame we will NEVER grow, we will continue being lukewarm and as the word tells us, we will be spit out. Do we wonder as if some strange thing happens when our children act out; do we not accept the blame? Children act according to the examples set in their life, by those examples the friends they will make will feed into them even more, of good or evil.

Little compromises are magnified in the world and through the eyes of others, let us cast off all appearance of evil.

“A path led is one more easily followed by another, to life or death”.

  • Amen Lewis….We see others, who have lost everything, because of their actions, be it gambling, alcohol, or drugs, and yet, we try it out ourselves….Such a waste…..

I refuse to watch Ellen…I quit watching Oprah Winfrey, years ago, because she introduced President Obama, as God when he appeared on her show before the first election…..And now, I’ve added Jamie Foxx to my block list, because he now says that President Obama is God…..

Why can’t people see, that situations like this, will pull them away from God?

  • @ellie1945 - Amen Ellie!! That is how my wife and I do, if they promote that which we are against we do not allow them to continue. I had a friend which told me he would have a beer once in awhile when it was very hot outside, and he saw nothing against it. I explained to him how buying one helps keep those companies in business destroying lives which makes him part responsable. I also explained to him how he was setting an example for others allowing them a chance to become addicted to it. I also explained how he being a Christian was justifying it for other Christians who would be fighting the urge. Every action we do, small or large affects others. Bro Doc sets a great example by not watching TV, I hope to obtain that eventually. Since obestity and diabetese has grown so vast, my wife and I do NOT eat sweets nor drink sweet drinks, we do not want to set bad examples. I do not want to contribuate in any way of destroying anothers lives on anything. We are to be lights to a darkned world. That is why I am also trying hard to loose weight, because I dont want to set a bad example even when it comes to health.

  • Very good Bro. Lewis, We say we are wrong before we can want help. Thank you for posting this. Bro. Doc

  • @BroDoc - Agreed Bor Doc, if we do not admit a problem we will never over come it. Thank you!

  • I understand about not being a stumbling block for other people…….the church you mentioned……a pastor preached on it one day and said the town had two water sources……that one was hot springs and the other cold, so by the time the water mixed in town, it was lukewarm………so many christians tell you these days that it’s good you believe in Jesus, but now you have keep the commandments to be saved, so they, in essence, put people right back under the law.  I don’t watch Ellen or support tv shows that try to socially engineer society.  In fact, I wont watch a lot of sitcoms because they like to show a bumbling middle aged man who is a halfwit with his ever so much smarter and more capable wife……..what does that say to boys?  I don’t get rid of my tv though because I watch news and some preaching on there and I have enough self control to control the dial……in the end I think God looks at our hearts and knows what is in there, and that’s how we are judged.  I’ve seen people do some nice things for wrong reasons……..I don’t judge people in eat or drink…….or if they observe this day as special or don’t…….and I know in no way, form or fashion can I save myself by anything I do or don’t do……..good post and I hope you have a good day.

  • @alterb4ego - Thanks Crystal! It is about becoming conformed into the image of Christ, we are the lights to the world the reflection of Christ to the world. As he manifested the Father to the world we manifest him to the world. It isnt our works, but our belief which saves us, which is manifested by our actions. By their fruits you shall know them. As far as getting rid of the TV that is my desire, here we dont get any channels unless you have a great antena or you have cable. I do not like knowing I support cable as they cause covetousness through commericals, as they cause lust and desensitize people to sin through many of their shows.
