  • Light shine

Mat_5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

1Jn_2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

This morning at 4:15 am the doorbell rung, so I got up and answered the door. It was a young man, and he apologized for being so early but saw our light on, figuring some one was up. We leave a lamp on in the living room; the light shines out through the window. The young man stated his battery was dead and needed a jump start, he lived down the street and his parent with their car was not home to jump him. I agreed, and got dressed and drove down and jump started him.

Later I thought upon what had happened, and the Spirit gave me these thoughts. If our light shines it will attract those in need, if those in need are turned away enough times they will give up on God, and the blame is ours. So we let our light shine and those in need that are attracted to it we give what is needed.

  • @Growedup - Amen Bev! It is a great feeling to help others. Thank you for the comment, they are appreciated.

  • The only “help” I’ve been these days, has me thinking I am being taken advantage of? Basically she is an older woman, comes knocking on my door at least once a week, and needs help returning items to Wal-Mart or Kohl’s, claims she lost her I.D. Than has conversations about her son’s divorce, how his now ex wife shopped a lot, and he gives her the stuff from the garage. Which I think she is than having me do the return, without a receipt you need I.D. I think the items are well past the time they’d allow for a return, she has a language/culture barrier, and I’ve recently because hubby said no more had to let her know I can’t do any more returns.

She’s never stopped by to chat, see how the kids are doing, or even sit and watch TV… and I don’t even know if she told me her real name. The first time I felt amazing, like I was actually helping another human being, after about the 5th or 6th time I started to wonder if I can be arrested and might be breaking a law?

I really want to be able to help others, I let people cut in line, I hold doors, and I go out of my way to be a nice/good person… and my eldest son asking me to turn around so he can hop out and help push a car out of the road tells me I can’t be doing too bad.

  • @Growedup - Even being nice if done incorrectly we can do more harm than good. Wisdom is needed in how we help others, because man is evil and will quickly take advantage of our love. In some cases it is more love to say no than to give in, like a parent and child.

  • Light our lights so shine, that others may see the love of Yahvah in us. And this is what we need to do, Bro. Lewis.
You did a good deed. Most at that hour would have not answered the door.
But we never know the person that may be coming to the door is Yahvah in a person. Do we deny them or do we help?
I have had to go places early too.

By the way in the first quarter OR Ducks 14 and WA Dogs O GO DUCKS. Bro. Doc

  • @BroDoc - Thank you Bro Doc! I think the greatest part I learnt from it, was the fact that if we turn away those that come in need because of our light shining, we are placing within them the thoughts that the light isnt where to get help. Basically speaking giving the light a bad name.

  • That is another way to look at it Bro. Lewis. But I think when there people are sent to us in the middle of the night or for what ever time of day it is for a reason. And we should take the time to help them, even if it means to put on the back burner what we are doing. Bro. Doc

  • @BroDoc - I agree Bro Doc completly, when our light attracts then our response is supposed to be light related. Thank you

  • Amen Lewis....Let our light shine, that others may see, and know, Jesus, who is the light that shines through us.....

  • @ellie1945 - Amen Ellie, our light attracts and our actions will speak louder than words. Thank you.

  • This is a wonderful post and yes when we let our light shine we should be prepared to help those in need.

  • @liz4christ - Amen Liz, thank you!! When our light attracts then our response is supposed to be light related.
